WELCOME LETTER
Welcome, everyone, to the 19th edition of the Female Eye Film Festival!
Well, to say that this has been quite the year would be a great understatement. To borrow from Charles Dickens: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” Hopefully, we have moved from the darkness and into the light.
Our need for the arts was really hammered home as we sat collectively in our homes around the globe and watched films/movies/concerts/poetry salons that soothed our souls, lifted our spirits, made us laugh, and made us cry. So to that end, I would like to thank all the filmmakers, artists, and poets who helped us navigate a very difficult year.
As with all festivals and cultural events, the Female Eye Film Festival will be “virtual” this year. We are thrilled to kick off FeFF on March 8, in honour of International Women’s Day, and we are delighted to present the Best in the Biz Tribute to Honorary Maverick Patricia Rozema.
I would like to thank Telefilm Canada, Encore+, Women In the Director’s Chair, Ontario Creates, and, last but not least, our amazing team of volunteers!
Thank you, and stay safe. A new day is coming!
