L'EFFET GUÊPE
Directed by Thaïs Lefèvre Brian
Agathe, a 29-year-old woman, is sitting on a café terrace. She becomes nervous when she finds herself face-to-face with a wasp circling her coffee. A voice-over narrates her everyday fears — from insects to needles — and the past traumas that caused them. It reveals that Agathe is actually waiting for a man she met on a dating app. The anxiety of his delay and the uncertainty make her start to doubt. When Max finally arrives, his original sense of style triggers unconscious judgments in her mind. The voice-over then explores the fear of difference, before widening the reflection to universal fears — the kind that are uncontrollable — as Agathe continues to have a terrible time. The situation seems hopeless, but when a wasp starts buzzing around Max, a connection is finally made: he’s afraid of insects too. A meeting that, beyond prejudice, reveals unexpected common ground.
